Rejuvenate Your Skin with Microneedling Treatment Posted in Practice News Alongside a range of sedation and cosmetic dentistry services, Bethesda Sedation Dentistry also provides wellness treatments designed to enhance overall well-being. Our wellness options include immune boosting IV therapy and skin rejuvenating microneedling treatments to help patients feel and look their best. Microneedling promotes the production of collagen, which can lead to a reduction in wrinkles, scarring, enlarged pores, acne, acne scarring, and stretch marks. The process for microneedling involves making small injections into the top layers of the skin. These small punctures help stimulate the skin’s natural healing process, as it is producing more collagen and elastin. These proteins contribute to keeping your skin firm and smooth. Before the microneedling procedure, it is best to avoid hair removal and facial products, stop taking blood thinners one week prior, and lastly, abstain from alcohol, caffeine, high sodium foods, spicy foods, high sugar foods, and cigarettes a day or two before. During the 30 to 45 minute microneedling process, a numbing gel is first applied to help calm the area. Dr. Deborah Klotz uses the Dermapen® to then penetrate the outermost layer of the skin to rejuvenate and make the skin plumper. After the procedure, the skin can become a little more irritated than usual for about five days, so it is important to apply an ice pack to help reduce swelling. It will also be helpful to avoid harsh sun exposure and sweating. Some products to avoid after microneedling include, but are not limited to, sunscreen and active ingredient skin products. A great aftercare solution would be to use a cooling face mask and antioxidant serum to help reduce irritation. If you have any of these conditions or concerns, or are taking certain medications, please consult with your primary care physician before scheduling your microneedling treatment: Acne medication Blood disorders Cancer (chemotherapy and radiation therapy) Frequent skin rashes Keloidal tendency Moles, freckles, and skin tags that change in size or bleed Skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis To schedule your next microneedling appointment with Dr. Deb, please give us a call. « Previous Post
