Oral DNA Test
Gum disease is one of the most common oral health conditions a patient can face. It’s also the leading cause of tooth loss in adults. That explains why treating gum disease—or even preventing it outright—is so important. Providing early care limits the damage to the patient’s smile, while preventing it eliminates the need for treatment all together.
But how can gum disease be prevented?
A simple answer to that is through regular brushing and flossing, but it’s also important to know just how vulnerable a particular patient might be. For that, it takes a special tool known as Oral DNA. With this revolutionary tool, Dr. Schlossberg and Dr. Klotz can assess a given patient’s risk for developing gum disease.
Oral DNA works using a special saline solution that is swished and then collected. The sample is then shipped to an Oral DNA lab, where it’s analyzed for the presence of disease-causing bacteria. One form of the test can even look for the presence of HPV, which has developed a link with an even more serious oral health issue—oral cancer.
When the results of your Oral DNA test have been returned to Bethesda Sedation Dentistry, Dr. Schlossberg and Dr. Klotz can help you with a risk assessment and can create a personalized plan to help you with prevention or treatment.
