How Does Invisalign® Work?
Invisalign® is a practically invisible orthodontic system that can help many individuals straighten their teeth more discreetly and comfortably than traditional metal braces. So how does it work? Following a thorough exam to confirm if Invisalign® is an appropriate treatment for your dental needs and concerns, our Bethesda dentists—Dr. Deborah Klotz and Dr. Robert Schlossberg—will fabricate a custom series of removable aligners that gradually move your teeth into a more desirable position throughout the treatment period.
Once designed and created, you will be instructed to wear each Invisalign® tray about 20-22 hours per day for a specified length of time prior to progressing to the subsequent aligner in your set. During the course of treatment, our dentists will request that you periodically come in for an office visit to make certain everything is moving forward as expected. For most patients, these occasional checkups typically occur less often and are much quicker than those generally required to tighten wires and monitor the progress of traditional braces.
The majority of individuals are able to achieve their desired Invisalign® results within nine months to a year. That said, some have finished treatment in as few as six months, particularly when using the innovative AcceleDent® Aura device our practice offers to help expedite the Invisalign® process. In the end, the length of time your Invisalign® treatment takes will depend on your unique smile needs and goals, as well as how well you follow the instructions provided by your dentist.
